The varnishing crew at work... | Sunday morning was a regular Sunday with me going into the jail then back to church for the sermon. Bro. Dan Ehst (Jordan's dad) preached a good sermon on "The Worth of a Soul". Came home to a lunch of leftovers then took all of us took a nap. It was a lovely day so after the nap we all walked over to Duane's and played on his swing/sliding board. Duane came out and Carl Heatwole stopped by on his 4-wheeler and talked for a while. For church in the evening Clyde Wagler from Pickens, SC brought a message on "Observance of the Lord's Day". David Entreken (also from Pickens) had a challenging devotions. |
Ina Sue finishing the crown mold. | Monday morning I headed off to work. Ina Sue of course started on the regular Monday washing. Mother Showalter and Ina Sue's nephew Andrew got here around 6:30, just in time to eat creamy white chili soup and biscuits with us before we left for chorus practice. It went fairly well and we made some progress but we are getting pretty discouraged about getting anything accomplished this season as far as a full program. |
Mother & Carolina with her beautiful work. | I headed off to work at 5:30 on Tuesday. Ina Sue & Mother started their work refinishing the woodwork in the bedroom. They unloaded all the junk out of the closets and piled it up in the end of our living room. At 11:00 Ina Sue went over to Brenda Groff's for a lunch in honor of Laura Heatwole's expected baby. She said the food was delicious! Then she drove up to Denmark to pick up some paint supplies from Brooker's and groceries from Bilo. When I got home from work she had chicken divan & cabbage salad already sitting on the table for supper. I ate supper then went into the jail for Bible study while they cleaned up after their workday. |
Annual grilled chicken supper | Ina Sue fixed us baked oatmeal for breakfast on Wednesday. I went off to work again while they started again on the room. I did a call at Southern Pines Plantation where I needed to run a network cable from one end of the house to the other. I strung the cable all out and was just getting ready to crawl under the house to pull it when I noticed that there was water starting to trickle out of some holes in the block underlayment. After a bit more investigation I found about a 6" deep lake of water building up under their house. A water line had broken lose and was quickly building a lake under there. The entrance hole to get under the house was one of the deepest points and I could also see where the water was within and inch or two of some electrical wiring.... Needless to say I wasn't ready to attempt repairs. They finally got someone to come in and turn of the power then fixed the break. We made bridges of concrete blocks and timbers so that I could go ahead and get my wire run. You never know what you will run into.... In the evening we went to prayer meeting. Mother preferred to stay home with Andrew and keep working on her project. |
Volleyball afterwards | Ina Sue had a hard time sleeping Thursday morning so she was pretty beat. I went into work a bit early for a training session with the computer dept. Ina Sue worked on painting the crown mold in the bedroom while Mother put the last coat of varnish on the wood. I came home soon after lunch time and helped sand down the closet shelves and put a coat of varnish on them. We all knocked off around 6:30 and drove into Denmark to eat supper at Hong Kong chinese restaurant with Don Heatwoles. We had a very nice time eating and visiting with them. Came home tired and headed to bed pretty quickly. |
Discussing the week's events. | We got up Friday morning to a wonderful breakfast casserole that Ina Sue tried for the first time. Then I went off to work again while the ladies worked on finishing up their project. When I called home around 4:00 they already had everything wrapped up. In the evening we all went to the school for Don Heatwole & Charles Brubaker's annual grilled chicken supper for the church. They brought the meat and everyone else took dishes for the carry-in. Had a really nice time visiting with friends. The youth played some volleyball after the supper. We got home around 10:00. |
Ready to head out Saturday morning | We got up a little before 6:00 on Saturday to see Mother & Andrew off for Virginia. We really really appreciated all the hard work that Mother put in refinishing all the wood in the bedroom. Andrew did pretty good as well. They got left around 6:15 and we went and laid down in bed again for a little. Then I left for the store. I've been getting off most Saturdays but I worked today for Hendrick so he could go on an outing with Carl Heatwole. I actually really enjoyed the day. It is nice to work in the shop without having to worry about on-site service calls. I was able to get some of our shelves in the service dept. sorted out and cleaned between the customers that came in. Ina Sue & Carolina left around 9:00 and went to Augusta with our neighbor K Epperson. She said they had a really nice time at the "Christmas in the South" craft show. They got home around 3:30 and got the house straightened up before I got home around 7:00. We had a nice relaxing evening together. |
